Could that sweet and salty smell of wonderful bacon, evoking memories of home-cooked breakfasts or late-night diners, be the reason so many of us have gone bacon crazy? Judging by the crowds at Chicago’s BaconFest, we’d guess it’s that memory or maybe just the meat candy loving crowds with megaphones announcing their continued porcine enthusiasm.
The festival features some of the hottest restaurant chefs in Chicago restaurants, preparing and serving small plates centered around the cured pork we adore. The best mixologists and brewers quench thirst with refreshing bacon-based and bacon-inspired cocktails and brews. The original founders of the Chicago-based fest continue to expand, and I don’t mean just in the waistline; they also now produce the event in San Francisco and Washington DC annually. But, as usual, the event is sold out but we aren’t and we’re proud to be celebrating our third and best year at Schaefer’s BaconFest 2013.
It’s all happening this Saturday, April 20th, noon to 4:00PM. It’s just $5.00 for the wristband that buys you access to nibbles, sips and a great time. All proceeds go to Northwestern University Settlement Association “House in the Wood Camp.”
Join us for the fun this weekend. We’ll offer samples from some of the best known in the bacon world such as Nueske’s, Dreymiller and Kray’s, Niman Ranch, Spencer’s, Benton’s, Schaller and Weber’s. We’ll also honored to taste items like Hook’s Bacon Cheddar & Big Fork Bacon Sausage. For your sweet tooth, we’ll have Chuao’s Maple Bacon Bars,Taza’s Chocolate Bacon Brownies, Bacon Chocolate Bars from Vosges and Bacon Toffee Popcorn Crunch from KP Toffee. Celebrate with fellow bacon enthusiasts from GrownUp KidStuff and our pal Dale with a phenomenal truffle tribute to “King”.
We’ll also be sampling some terrific wines, beers and specialty beverages including Bacon Mocha’s from Big Shoulder’s Coffee, Bacon Chocolate freezes from Kokku, Longbranch’s Bloody Marys and Bakon Vodka.
