This month, we had a wonderful opportunity to feature and taste the various beers from Founder’s Brewery a Grand Rapids, Michigan brewer. (@foundersbrewing)
Owners Mike Stevens and Dave Engbers, once home brewers, launched their small brewery in 1997 and it’s now become one of the most prominent breweries in the state, making up to 50,000 barrels per year (slated for further expansion, too.) They found themselves rating as the #2 beer in the Ratebeer.com’s listing of best breweries in the world in 2011, winning four medals at the World Beer Cup back in 2010. Needless to say, this beer is remarkable and has caught the attention of beer lovers everywhere. We wanted to be sure to bring it to you, and now carry five of these tasty craft beers.
Earlier in the month, we featured this line-up at one of our wonderful Saturday tasting event. Below you’ll find an overview of these brews. We know you’ll find one to suite your taste.
Centennial IPA is a complex flavorful ale with a frothy head and floral bouquet of citrus and hops. This brew shouts with sweet malty undertones balanced with the hoppy character. It finishes smoothly with just a hint of bitter
This dark and rich elixir combines chocolate malt with four varieties of hops. It’s silky black in color and smells of strong chocolate and caramel. It’s truly a lover not a fighter and brings a smile to the most discriminating beer lover’s face, every time.
All Day IPA
This naturally brewed ale has a complex array of malts, grains and hops. It finishes clean and goes down easy, making it the ideal everyday guzzler. The rich flavors are set off with a lift of citrus. The perfect beer for the fan who wants an approachable but super flavorful brew.
This is Founders flagship beer, dark ruby in color and brewed with ten varieties of imported malts. This isn’t a shy one; it’s bold and powerful, complex and inviting. The malty richness and hoppy attitude shout out with personality, to say the least.
Red’s Rye PA
This deep crimson red brew has a creamy tan head that’s alluring and distinctive. The IPA has four varieties of Belgian caramel malts. It’s impressively balanced with a hoppy bitterness yet a floral bouquet to balance it. The malted rye leaves you with a spicy crisp finish that makes you reach for the next sip.
Take a look at each beer below- some are darker than others and Red’s Rye PS is indeed red.
This is not your average beer, or even your average craft beer; Founders brews the kind of beer that is memorable. It’s complex, in-your-face ales, with “huge aromatics, bigger body, and tons of flavor.”
The Founders Family, a group of passionate beer enthusiasts, has grown around a simple philosophy: “We don’t brew beer for the masses. Instead, our beers are crafted for a chosen few, a small cadre of renegades and rebels who enjoy a beer that pushes the limits of what is commonly accepted as taste. In short, we make beer for people like us.” Now that’s commitment.
